·      Delhi and Haryana Police sealed multiple entry points into National capital by barriers of barbed wire, spikes and cement blocks and also internet services were suspended in some districts of the neighboring state of Haryana.

·      The protests are led by Jagjit Singh Dallewal of BKU (Dallewal) and Sarvan Singh Pandher of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.

Difference between Previous and current farmer protest:

·      Last time the main demand was to repeal the farm laws which the government had accepted after nearly two years of protests.

·      In the earlier protests, almost all the farmer organizations in Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh numbering more than 40 were under the Sanyukta kisan Morcha (SKM)

·      Last time such as Darshan Pal, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Rakesh Tikait, Balbir Singh Rajewal and Gurnam Singh Charuni.

·      SKM (non-political) includes BKU (Dallewal) led by Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha led by Sarvan Singh Pandher. It claims support of 17 farm organisations. Pandher and Dallewal from Punjab and Abhimanyu Kohar from Haryana have been the most visible faces of SKM (non-political)

Demands :

·      And demanding to set crops prices as per Swaminathan commission’s report. Farmers are also pressurizing the government to meet its promise to double their income.

·      Farmers above 60 years of age are demanding a monthly pension of ₹10,000.

·      also asking for the withdrawal of cases registered during the last agitation in 2020-21.

Analysis :

After 2021 farmer protest led government to withdraw all three controversial acts, namely Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act 2020, and promised to set up a panel of growers and government officials to find ways to ensure support prices for all produce. Farmers accuse the government of going slow in fulfilling those promises.
